Rewardful Alternative: What Happens When Your SaaS Grows Past the Revenue Cap?
Rewardful is a well-built, Stripe-native referral tool that a lot of small SaaS teams like — but its plans are gated by how much affiliate-driven revenue you're allowed to track each month. Cross $7,500/mo on the entry plan and you're pushed to Growth ($99/mo); cross $15,000/mo and you're pushed again, to Enterprise ($149+/mo). Your bill goes up as your program succeeds, on a fixed schedule that has nothing to do with what you're actually paying affiliates.
Promio doesn't meter revenue on any plan — tracking and attribution work the same at $500/mo in affiliate-driven revenue as at $50,000/mo, on the free tier included. What its plans are sized by is something else entirely: how much commission Promio collects and pays out to your affiliates for you. Here's the full comparison.
TL;DR
| Promio (Free plan) Best value | Rewardful (Starter plan) | |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly base fee | €0 | $49/mo (2 months free billed annually) |
| Affiliate-revenue cap | None — tracking is uncapped on every plan | $7,500/mo tracked revenue, then forced upgrade to Growth ($99/mo) |
| Cut of affiliate commissions | 0% — on every plan, and €0 owed in a quiet month on Free | 0% transaction fee, but the $49+/mo subscription is due regardless of revenue |
| Free trial | Not needed — Free plan has no time limit | 14 days |
| Team members | No seat limit on any plan | Up to 2, on Starter |
| Campaigns | Unlimited, even on Free | 1 campaign — unlimited requires Growth ($99/mo) |
| Stripe-native tracking | Yes — Stripe webhook integration (checkout + subscription renewals) | Yes — built specifically around Stripe billing |
| Affiliate payouts | Free tracks and totals them, you send them; from €89/mo Promio invoices the commissions at cost and pays affiliates via Stripe Connect | Yes — PayPal and Wise mass payouts included |
| Best for | SaaS teams that want tracking to be free and uncapped, and to pay only for handled payouts | Small SaaS teams comfortable re-pricing as affiliate revenue crosses set thresholds |
Growing revenue never re-prices your tracking
Promio’s tiers are sized by the commission it pays out on your behalf, not by the revenue it is allowed to attribute — so doubling your referred MRR doesn’t change what the software costs, and it never takes a percentage of what your affiliates earn. All four tiers are published on the pricing page.
Rewardful pricing, in full
Rewardful prices its plans by how much affiliate-driven revenue you're allowed to track per month:
A 14-day trial is available, and annual billing gets 2 months free. Rewardful markets itself as "0% transaction fee," which is true — but the flat monthly subscription is due whether the month was quiet or not, and crossing either revenue threshold forces a plan upgrade regardless of how many affiliates or how much traffic is involved.
Promio pricing, in full
Promio has no tracked-revenue tiers to cross. Attribution is uncapped on every plan; what the tiers size is the payout work:
Two things are true on every plan, including Free: Promio takes 0% of your affiliates’ commissions, and nothing is metered — clicks, conversions, affiliates and programs never trigger a charge. The plan bands are on commission Promio pays out for you, not on revenue you track: go past the band and only the money movement pauses, while the commissions stay tracked, owed, and payable by you directly that month.
When Promio does handle payouts, it invoices you your affiliates’ commissions at cost and passes them through in full — that invoice contains no Promio revenue at all. The payment provider’s transfer fee (from €0.25) is deducted from each affiliate payout, the way PayPal and Wise do it, and is shown to the affiliate before it is taken.
Worth doing the conversion, because the two models measure different things: at a typical 10% affiliate commission, Growth’s €2,000 of disbursed commission is roughly €20,000 of referred revenue a month — a level at which Rewardful would already have moved you past Starter and past Growth. And if you stay on Promio’s free tier, there is no revenue figure at all at which the tracking stops or the price changes.
Promio tracks Stripe checkouts and subscription renewals natively via webhook (checkout.session.completed and invoice.paid), the same core job Rewardful does for Stripe-billed SaaS — the difference is what happens as revenue grows, not whether Stripe is supported at all.
The real difference: what your bill is actually indexed to
A referral program's whole point is to grow affiliate-driven revenue. Rewardful's tier structure means that success — crossing $7,500 or $15,000 in tracked monthly revenue — is exactly the event that increases your bill, on top of whatever affiliates are already earning. It's not a huge jump in absolute terms, but it's a pricing model where the software's price and your program's success move in the same direction on a fixed schedule you don't control.
On Promio the bill is indexed to work performed, not results achieved: the plan price buys collecting and disbursing your affiliates' commissions, and Promio takes no percentage of them at any tier. Revenue can multiply without the software costing more, and the ceiling that does exist — the commission band — is one you can simply decline: over it, payouts pause for the month while tracking carries on untouched, and you settle those commissions yourself exactly as a free account does. Nothing is lost, and no upgrade is forced on you mid-month.
Where Rewardful has the edge
To be fair to Rewardful: it's purpose-built for Stripe-billed SaaS and has some polish there that a more general platform may not match out of the box — a branded affiliate portal with a custom domain (Growth plan), and PayPal/Wise mass payouts built directly into every tier. If your whole business is Stripe subscriptions and you want that specific packaging, it's a reasonable, well-regarded choice.
